“Holy Spirit, Truth Divine”
“Holy Spirit, truth divine, dawn upon this soul of mine;
Breath of God and inward light, wake my spirit, clear my sight.”
On May 11th at our 11:15 service our 2008 Confirmands will stand before the altar and be asked:
Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God?
Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God?
Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you away from God?
Do you believe in God the Father?
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:
U to love among God’s faithful people,
U to hear the Word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper,
U to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
U to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
U and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
They will, by the grace of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, choose to stand with God in a broken world. They will declare their trust in the Triune God for life and life everlasting. They will commit themselves to be a faithful and active member of the church for the rest of their lives.
As these young people take this next step in their faith journey we would ask:
For the entire congregation to pray for them and support them in their promises and to join them in recommitting ourselves to also live lives of faith and care, affirming our trust in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and choosing to follow God daily in our world.
“Holy Spirit, power divine, fortify this will of mine;
By your will I strongly live, bravely bear, and nobly strive.”
